Older Son has a quality similar to me - "put off today what can wait until tomorrow." He kept putting off packing for church camp, not even doing it the evening before. He waited until THE LAST MINUTE! So needless to say, yesterday morning older Son and I tried to set a new record of "how many things can we pack into 3 hours and get ready to leave for camp on time?"
Whew.
By 7:30 a.m., we were up. He drove boss's pickup back to boss's house, I followed in the Durango. He got his paycheck from boss. He got in the Durango with me. I would NOT let him drive. We hot-footed it to the bank in the nearby town, and it was so early, we had to go through the drive-through. Sped to Wal-Mart, where he could get some last-minute camp things. We wandered around in there for awhile, as we also wanted to go to the thrift store, and it didn't open until nine-THIRTY. Wrapped up the wallyworld run, as I was getting hungry, and so was he. So we sped to Sonic, and got a little breakfast. Sat there and waited until almost 9:30. Sped to the thrift store, parked, then had to WAIT for them to open the door 5 minutes late. Wandered around in there a short bit while he found some shirts for camp. Sped home so he could shower. Meanwhile, his duffel bag was on the couch, and he piled things on there for me to pack in the duffel bag (at a high rate of speed) while he showered (at a high rate of speed). He kept finding things to put in the duffel bag, and I kept stuffing them in. I finally could barely get it zipped. Then he came out with a PAIR OF SHOES to go in - I said, "There's no room!!!" So HE made them fit and actually got the thing zipped. We hurried out to the Durango, threw in bag, bedding, etc., and sped to the church a whole 3 blocks away where the church bus was waiting to leave at 10:30. We pulled up by the bus at 10:25. YEE-HAA! And there were kids arriving after us, so we weren't the latest.
He texted later that they were on the road. I hope they have a good week!
He texted later again ..... he forgot his Bible. *groan!* Oh well, surely in a Bible Camp that big he can borrow or share one!
After I dropped him off at the church, I went home and CRASHED awhile. This almost 49-year-old mom's stamina sure gets tested sometimes!
Glad he made it on time!! That would have really stunk!
ReplyDeleteI'm *hoping* they really wouldn't have gone of and left him! His friends were texting him all morning --- "Where are you?" I guess they were coming by the house to see if he was ready, and there we were gallavanting around W'ford, and him not even packed yet! LOL
