It's amazing the rabbit paths my thoughts go down. My thoughts tend to wander anyway. I was simply driving home on the interstate earlier today. Well, a speeder went by in the fast lane, and as they zoomed out of sight, I though, "It's your ticket." Because - the OHP DOES patrol that section of road! It made me think on the fact I've never been stopped as a driver. I've been with Hubby when he was stopped, I've seen other people stopped, but SO FAR I've not been stopped for a violation.
Then I got to thinking I hadn't had a wreck either ... at least out on the road. But I have had some mishaps from a parked position!
When I was a young adult still living at home after college, I worked weekends staying with an elderly lady at night. Another woman stayed with her on week nights. This lady had an automatic garage door opener - when we arrived, we drove in and shut the door with the button by the kitchen door, then opened it the same way as we were ready to leave in the morning. Hit button, get in car, back out, leave.
Well, one morning something glitched in my brain, and I hurriedly got in my car, started it, put it in reverse ... *CRUNCH!* I backed into the CLOSED garage door! There was a pretty good dent in the hinge area, but it could still open, so I could get out and go on. (After telling the lady's daughter what happened, and she assured me the insurance would take care of it. Whew!)
Then later, as I related this to the other woman who stayed there, she said, "Well at least you didn't knock it CLEAR DOWN like I did!" Oh, hahahaha!!!! Not that I'm happy she knocked it down, but it made me feel a little better!
Then there's the time I ... hit a building. One house we lived in, there was a small apartment out back, and our driveway pulled right in to that building. Well, at one point we got another pickup, a manual. So I didn't mind shifting gears, and usually got along alright with it. Well, once again the glitch syndrome struck, and I got in it to leave, and ... forgot to take it out of gear first. I turned the key, and *LURCH!!!* it leaped forward and put a big dent/hole in the side of the building with the bumper! *SIGH.* I seem to have the most trouble with maneuvering from parked positions! I won't tell you what I did with the old car at the nearby Sonic awhile back!
I hope you didn't just jinx yourself into a ticket :-)
ReplyDeleteyou are so funny!
ReplyDeleteI don't speed but others sure do, don't they?
I hope not, Melanie! I do have to put the disclaimer - "so far." LOL
ReplyDeleteI'll tell you, Rhonda, sometimes out on that interstate it's crazy - some have to be going at least 90!
