Well, once again, the thrift store has struck, I've been there every day for the last 4 days, for various reasons - two of those days was actually taking stuff over. Older son and I ended up there today, after I took some more stuff to donate. Among things, here are two major finds - this Cowgirl is happy, happy, happy! There will be even MORE music in this house now!
Today's two main finds - "Josephus History of the Jews Vol. 1," and an ACCORDION!
Which makes me think of Dad. Let me explain. Mom and Dad were both musical. Mom had taken piano lessons as a girl, and had played classical pieces during her school days. She also enjoyed playing for church in later years. Meanwhile, Dad was also very musical, but he couldn't read a note! He played and sang "by ear." He learned how to "chord" on the piano, and even played in school some. He and three of his brothers had a quartet once, and they even sang at a veterinarian's convention in Wichita. He also enjoyed playing other various instruments ... such as a lap/steel guitar (a regular guitar laid on your lap and played with a steel bar), and guys would get together at his shop and make music. But one time he had gotten ahold of an accordion, and learned to play it, of course, by ear. So he was playing it there in the shop one day, and a guy came in and said, "You're playing that thing upside-down and backwards!" HA! But he was still playing it, nonetheless!
So I've already sat down with this thing, and I love it. As soon as hubby wakes up, I can try it a little louder, perhaps. "Mr. Music, please ...!"
I sure do remember romper room, and my family defiantly wasn't musical. Now the hubbies family is different. His sister and brother both play the guitar and sing, but my hubby didn't get the musical gene. Have fun with your instrument!
ReplyDelete=) How fun!! I'm not sure I'd want that at MY house. The drums are bad enough! HAHA Happy playing!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Lisa - and do you remember how she'd look through that little looking glass, and say "I see Johnny, and Suzie, and Mike, and Pam, ...." I never did hear her say "Rhonda!" LOL
ReplyDeleteOh, Becky, the accordion is TAME compared to BAGPIPES! My cousin played those, they were loud beyond compare. Her dad used to make her practice in the basement. If she went out in the back yard, the neighbors complained. She and I were in my bedroom once, she on bagpipes, and me on a saxophone. You couldn't even hear the sax over those pipes! I thought the windows and walls were gonna crack. LOL!
I bet that does bring back memories for you! Our school music teacher had one and played it for us to sing when we were kids.
ReplyDeleteI'll bet that was interesting, Debbie. :) That reminds me, I think our band instructor's wife played the accordion, and I heard her at school one time. I like it because you can be as simple or as complicated as you want with playing it, and it's portable. :)
