... found a crocheted afghan at the thrift store with an unusual stitch I'd never seen before. Came home and google-searched it, and found out it's called "broomstick lace." Trying to decide if I'm brave enough to tackle such a stitch, it looks complicated!
Looks like a very neat design!
ReplyDeleteThis stitch just fascinates me, and I'm just gonna HAVE to try it sometime. Thanks for the encouragement, Robin! :)
ReplyDeleteYikes!! Good luck with it!! Seems that you are quite a crochet-er. .you probably will have it down in no time!!
ReplyDeleteThis is a very simple stitch. You can actually buy a broomstick needle; or use an actual broomhandle. The crochet hook size is like an I or so if I remember. Crochet a chain first to start; Row 2:pull a loop thru each single & slide the loops onto the broomstick.Row 3: you count 5 loops, slide off handle & crochet 5 singles around the the edge of the the loops. So, if you crochet your chain in number divisible by 5...you got it made. Repeat rows 2 & 3 for the pattern.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the encouragement, Melanie!
ReplyDeleteThanks for explaining, Cindy - that helps! I'm sure I can find some kind of "broom handle"-type thing around here, and I do want to try it. :)
I am not a crochet expert at all but broomstick is very simple. Once you learn it, you never have to look at a pattern and can almost do it in your sleep.
ReplyDeletejust find you a broom stick, a biggish crochet hook and some yarn. :)
Thanks, Rhonda! I'm pretty sure I will try this as soon as I can get a few other things out of the way. :)
