Fair Fun!

Here's a recap of the recent fair our little town had - three days packed full of fun and events!

THURSDAY

The fairgrounds begin to fill up as the fair gets underway!

Horse show.

Beef barn.

Livestock barn.

Crafts.

Quilts.

Garden produce.

Canned goods.

Baked goods - cakes. (Different from the cake auction later.)

Peanuts, corn and milo.

Flowers on display.

Ornamental grasses.

Fine Art exhibits.

Fairgoers enjoying the free entertainment.

Younger Son and his new "friends."

Lights on the Ferris Wheel as the sun goes down.

FRIDAY

Part of the kids' races and games.

Curly fries.

Frito Chili Pie.

The Ferris Wheel.

View of the fairgrounds from the top of the Ferris Wheel. What a view!

*Ulp* ... looking down from our Ferris Wheel seat!

The Merry-Go-Round.

"Muffin Pan Toss" game - younger Son's favorite this year! He won a lot of stuff at it. :)

Train ride!

The nice footbridge that was built a couple of years ago to connect the main fairgrounds with the arena area. Before that it was either go around, or walk a dilapidated plank bridge! This is a definite improvement, and very much enjoyed.

A good country band providing some of the free entertainment.

SATURDAY

Exhibits were turned loose Saturday morning. Younger Son's Lego entry got a red ribbon ...

... and my quilt projects each got a red.

A team ready to sort steers in the RSNC Sorting event.

Team sorting action.

Time for the parade - here comes the beginning with the color guard.

Antique fire truck.

Gold Star Mothers.

A .... uh .... SHOE float!

Horseback riders.

The LOUD fire truck that brought up the end of the parade. I'm surprised the horses ahead of them stayed put!

Me at the (short-lived) parade. I think it went a whole 10 minutes! There were a few more things than what I showed here, but it was still a shorter parade than it's been in recent years.

Cool-looking clouds in the Oklahoma sky.

My two boys (one eating ice cream!) waiting for the kids' tractor pull to start.

A determined entrant in the kids' tractor pull.

A little guy cheering during the kids' tractor pull. Cutie!

Crepe Myrtles beautify the east edge of the fairgrounds.

Grilled burger for lunch ...

... enjoyed with an ice-cold Pepsi.

Lunch enjoyed under this great BIG beautiful shade tree!

Washers tournament.

Saturday afternoon amongst all the events - empty fairgrounds, waiting for the night's activities ... except for this lone dachshund!

Saturday night saw a nice breeze.

Long table of cakes that have been judged, and are now ready to be auctioned off.

Mrs. Auctioneer announces the winners in the cake categories, while Mr. Auctioneer awaits his turn at the microphone.

And ... the cake bidding starts! Average prices were in the $600 to $800 range, some were over $1,000. One brought $3,000! These funds are for next year's fair for premiums, expenses, etc.

The last night goes especially late - then that'll be it 'til next year!

  1. Great pictures! I had to look away really fast when I got to your Ferris Wheel picture. I won't be riding one this year! HA
Did you have any bunnies at your fair? I always wonder. We know fairs that have WAY more than we do, but also of some that don't have any.

  2. Sooo ... let me take it that you don't like heights, or stomach-churning speed, or both? Kinda gives you a "lurch" as you go over the top! No, we don't have rabbit entries here. They do a horse show, then they have a general livestock show of beef, swine, sheep and goats. This has been interesting to know 2 different fairs, and the different ways of doing things. :)
