Let's just say I needed some "cooking therapy" today. Uh ... plus I needed to use up some cucumbers and some apples!
This was the result of my first try at making any kind of PICKLES. I love the idea of canning, but it intimidates me, so I went the freezer route, with some "freezer pickles."
After I saw this same type of salad in a friend's facebook album today, I had to make one for myself! Mom made this all the time when I was growing up - cherry jello with sliced bananas. Sometimes she put mini-marshmallows on top as well. Nice and cool for a summer day.
Then, to use up some apples some friends brought by, I made an apple crisp from a recipe in one of the Amish cookbooks I have. The Fiesta Ware bowl used to be Mom's. I also have two more bowls like this in turquoise blue and cream. Speaking of cream, you've just GOT to put something like that on apple crisp! I poured this over, since we had no whipped cream or ice cream. Still good!
well, you may not of lived in Oklahoma long, but you sure cook like an Okie :)
ReplyDeleteLooks yummy--I'm just hoping to be able to EAT tomorrow after this flu bug leaves!! This is my first shot out of my room since last night!! Dev and I made a jello yesterday--but I haven't gotten to try it yet!! We like jello too!
ReplyDeleteMy memories of the red jello include a can of fruit cocktail, using the juice from the fruit as part of the cold liquid. Then came the bananas & the mini-marshmallows. Now they have the various colored marshmallows that would really be neat on the jello! My aunt raised 13 kids, & she made plain jello in a gallon crock. When we went to visit, we took the fruit & marshmallows to make the jello special for her kids. And, boy did they love it!
