Spiders, Half-price Drinks and a Cantankerous Day

This day has been full of it. It has included a silly refrigerator, sirens, rain (but that's a blessing for sure), cranky feelings at work (nothing really bad, just feeling tired and complain-y), and outbursts. And a spider.

Got both boys off to their various things this morning without too much trouble, so was thankful for that.

After awhile, I heard sirens. Lots of sirens, over and over. It came from the direction of the fire station a few blocks away, and sounded like they opened up the whole fire station and turned everything on. They wouldn't quit. Then finally here they came down the highway over east of us a block or so. First came the police Tahoe cruiser .... then a red fire truck .... then a yellow-green fire truck .... then after that came a school bus. I thought that was odd, but it didn't register in my brain. I wondered what awful thing had happened out on the interstate. Later, I found out that the firemen were "sending off" the girls' softball team to state today. AH, I forgot about that. So at least that mystery was solved, and there weren't any accidents.

After work, it was rainy (supposed to be this way all week), and I texted Hubby about getting some medicine for him that he needed, then he texted back that drinks were half price at Sonic today (for Cinco de Mayo). So I decided I'd get him and I each a drink to bring home with me. Finally got to Sonic, ordered the drinks, and was sitting there in the car waiting for the order to come out. Suddenly ....

.... a fuzzy black spider came crawling across the dash, behind the steering wheel. I came unglued. Cars aren't that roomy, but adrenalin and fear made me whip my shoe off my foot in record time in those tight spaces, and I started trying to pound on the dash with it. But the dumb spider kept ahead of my shoe every time it came down. Finally it made it to the far corner of the windshield, down in a little crevice.

Grrrr.

I hate spiders.

I ESPECIALLY hate being in a confined space, such as a car, with a spider.

Thoughts of driving clear home 7 miles on interstate with a spider lurking in the corner of the windshield were NOT appealing. I could see it crawling out again, and me going ballistic at 70 m.p.h. (Or maybe 65 in the rain.) So I had to decide what to do about that.

Finally the girl came out bringing the drinks, and I was suddenly glad she didn't come out when I was in war mode with that spider. That would've looked really cool, with me whamming on the dash with my shoe.

I decided to go home the back way on country roads, in case I had to stop and pull over to deal with the spider again. But thankfully, I didn't see any more of him. Yet.

Now I'm home, and maybe it's a little better. I got my little plants set outside to get a drink of rain. The school bus just stopped at the nearby intersection and spit out the kids who live around here, before whipping around the corner and heading west. So Younger Son is in for the night. Older Son should be home after awhile as well.

So though it's been a flustering, cantankerous day, I will try to end with some good things. Rain, family, good work, and I actually used the "self checkout station" at Walmart and didn't need any help. And a half-price Dr. Pepper. Thanking God for looking out for our little family every day, and for all He has provided. So now I will try to have a more relaxing evening.
