Please forgive for YET ANOTHER POST ABOUT CLOUDS AND RAIN. Just call this week "drought-buster week." Thankful for rain, though, because drought is horrible.
Tuesday - .88"
Wednesday - .79"
Thursday - .72" total (two rains)
Friday (today - .91"
Total for the last 4 days - 3.30"
And that's just from our rain gauge in our back yard. Other places have had even more, I'm sure.
There has been everything around the state - tornadoes, hail, rain of course, and the resulting flooding.
There have been several pictures and videos of flooding on facebook this evening - raging rivers, fields turned into lakes, and streets and yards disappearing under flood waters. The flooding has even caused some of those installed tornado shelters to pop up out of the ground.
Tomorrow, Saturday, it is expected to be especially stormy, more so than the last few days and today. Today here was actually not bad - just normal rain, and some lightning and thunder here and there. But some places have had the hail and tornadoes again today, including down in neighboring Texas.
When it thunders, our dog crawls under the desk to hide, poor thing. She's kind of big, so it's a tight fit. So we coax her out, and pet her, and reassure her.
After a long, dark, rainy afternoon, the storm moved on east and the sun started to peek below the clouds towards sunset. Here's our rain gauge that's been getting a workout. I got this rain gauge from the National Weather Service in Dodge City a long time ago when we still lived in Kansas, I think even before I was married. It's a good sturdy one that can measure several inches of rain.
I love the effect of sunlight bringing out dark clouds and bright-green leaves.
Spectacular "mammatus" clouds as the rain moves out.
There were also some cool "swirly" effects in the clouds in some places.
A variety of cloud effects.
The sun making an appearance towards sundown as the clouds move on.
