Take careful note of the dog in the above photo, laying lazily on the couch, oblivious to the world. This is probably 90 to 95 per cent of the time. At least it seems that way.
But last night ...
Younger Son was up late watching TV, so I had to go tell him to get to bed so we could get up for church this morning. I came out the bedroom door, and was greeted with a furry maniac, tearing up the living room. She stopped and planted her feet out in front of her, tongue hanging out in a silly grin, then she tore in a circle and hopped on the couch. "Oh, do you need to go out?" I said. I got the flashlight (daytime, I use a leash because of squirrels, nighttime, I use just a flashlight as the squirrels are asleep), and opened the front door.
VROOMMMMM!!!!
Off she went out the door like a racehorse out of the starting gate, making a wide circle around the lawn furniture and heading down the side of the house to the back yard. By the time I got to the front corner of the house ...
VROOOOOOMMMMM!!!!
... here she came back up the side of the house, full of energy, ready to tear up the place. I whispered (since it was night and the neighbors were asleep), "you get back there and potty!!!"
VROOOOMMMMMMM!!!!!!
Now usually, when she has to "go," she has to nose around the yard for 5 minutes, sniffing for just the right spot, finally "going." But this time ...
VROOMMMMMM!! down the side of the shed, SCREEECHHH!!! to a halt, "squat, pee for 2 seconds," VROOOMMMMMMMM!!!! back to the front of the house.
By the time I got to the front of the house (silently laughing all the way about the quick pit stop that would put NASCAR pit crew to shame), she was on the front sidewalk. Suddenly, VROOOOMMMM!!!! right towards the front door, I thought, "What??? She's gonna run into the front door!" But Younger Son had opened the front door and she went right on in.
VROOOMMMM! onto the couch, where we gave her pats and laughed about the speed freak she was. NEVER A DULL MOMENT.
Our weinie dog was always like that. .hyper or lethargic. .not much middle ground!!
