Fair Entry Fun

I was looking for some photos in my albums, then I came across some quilt stuff as well. This particular picture shows a quilt, a picture, tomatoes, muffins and biscuits that I entered in the county fair up home in 1989 (pretty sure that's the year). Blues on all but the muffins, they got a red. This is when I thought those tomatoes would bomb, because I barely had enough for the entry, and they were small. When I took them up to enter, the other tomato entries were all big and plump. But when I went back up to look after the judging was done, they had a blue, and the other bigger tomatoes all had reds. I guess the judge went by uniformity, color, and no blemishes. That was a big surprise, but a nice one. I have always loved entering things in the county fair up home. Now that we live in a different place, they have a local fair every summer, and I continue to enjoy entering things. Usually quilt stuff, crocheting and knitting, and foods. The boys have had fun entering things in the past, too.

  1. I have learned a ton by following the judges around as they talk to my kids. .or when I am helping them as an assistant. .they totally look for uniformity and no blemishes on the produce. .or sun scalds or green spots. .hard to believe that the fair is honestly right around the corner again!!
