Well! Oklahoma had a couple of earthquakes yesterday. There was one in the wee hours of the morning, I slept through that one. Hubby was out on the truck, and said some handles on it rattled at one point. Older Son felt it. I slept. That kind of bummed me out, that I "missed" it.
Mother nature took care of that!
We were up late last night, time change going on, just staying up awhile. Then ... just before 11 p.m. ... I was sitting here at the computer. Younger Son was on the couch watching tv. Older Son was upstairs. Hubby out on the truck.
Suddenly .... *rumble ... rumble ... rumble ... rumble ... rumble .. rumble ...* Things started shaking! Then the house creaked once above me, and that really freaked me out. I ran to the front door and opened it, wondering if I could see or hear anything - no, but could still feel that "shake" under my feet!
Older Son came downstairs and said he didn't realize what was going on until he saw the water in his glass shaking.
Facebook went wild - "Did anyone else feel an earthquake?" Comments from everywhere from Texas, throughout Oklahoma, through Kansas, wow!!!
The final designation on this later quake was 5.6 - bigger than the morning one, and in fact, the biggest one in Oklahoma's recorded history. Yes, Oklahoma has fault lines. These quakes originated a ways northeast of Oklahoma City. This particular area has had a lot of "little" quakes for quite awhile. Evidently, closer to the epicenter, there was some damage and evidence - items in houses shaken around and tipped over, cracks in buildings, parts of structures fallen, cracks in roads, etc.
Needless to say, it took me a little while to calm down and go to bed! I think I'd just as soon not go through that again, but I don't think I have any say about it. But I'd take a good ol' Oklahoma thunderstorm over an earthquake any day! At least you can see them coming.
I can't figure out if I am bummed out becuase I missed it or RELIEVED that I missed it! LOL
ReplyDeleteWell. .YIKES!! Count me out on wanting to endure that! Just one day closer to the end times isn't it!! Hopefully, you won't see any more soon!
ReplyDeleteRockin' 'n Rollin' in Oklahoma!! Too much excitement for me ;~)
ReplyDeleteBecky, it was really weird being shaken around uncontrollably and you couldn't do a thing about it! Yeah, Melanie, it does make you thing of end times doesn't it ... "earthquakes in divers places ..." Gtyyup, it was pretty wild, and interesting that it was the LARGEST one in Oklahoma's history! "So honored." LOL Not sure I want to experience this again!
