The trumpet vine bush is still prolific with its orange blossoms.
Weeds are growing by the shed, and now they have great big beautiful yellow blossoms. They may be weeds, but that yellow sure cheers me up.
However, the Morning Glories I planted, and have watered, and have watched, are still mostly just VINE with few, if any, blossoms. Here are the ones by the west clothesline pole, they are supposed to be blue. Do you see any blue blossoms? No.
Here are the ones by the east clothesline pole. They are supposed to be multi-colored. I may have seen a couple of spindly blossoms in the last few weeks. Right now they are just green vines, too. I hope I'm seeing flower buds coming on, though.
Our neighbor has blue Morning Glories on a trellis by her back porch. One year, they seeded by the back corner of our house, and basically took over! With lots of blue blossoms. This year, I'm seeing a few now - here are some of what's in that same area by the back of our house - and they're BLOOMING. With no water or care!
Here's the trumpet vine by the shed, and more wild morning glories that are BLOOMING. You can probably tell our yard is very "natural," "wild," and "neglected." I blame the heat and my lack of energy and stamina.
The garden has been let go for quite some time now, but here's some of the broom corn.
Ant hills in the red Oklahoma dirt.
We have three or four Rose of Sharon bushes by the west side of our house. I really like them, but they've been crowded by the neighbor's fence for a long time. Plus they look like they've been damaged, with a few broken branches. (I think this photo is actually one of the broken branches, and it still bloomed.) Well, that lot has been purchased by new owners, and the fence came down. But these bushes seem to have been through the mill this summer - heat and what-all. But they're still blooming some. I hope I can tend them better and get them going nicely again.
I wish I knew what this dumb weed was! It almost reminds me of holly or a poinsettia - green, pointy leaves with red in the middle. It pops up all over the place around the side and front of our house.
Some kind of weed in the front of our house with a delicate, blue flower.
And I also have no idea what this pink-blooming stuff is. I know there's some kind of thing like this that blooms, and when it matures, it has what seems like dry, brown, needle-like stickers all over it. If you brush against it, they'll cover your clothes! Just ask me. We had one at the apartment by the back door, and when I went out dressed for church one morning, I accidentally brushed against it and got a skirt-full of the needles! Talk about a pain in the ....
... but wait, what's this? The rose bush that the grasshoppers literally stripped of every leaf??? IT'S PUTTING OUT FRESH LEAVES! Probably won't be able to do any blooming this year, but that's nice to see that it's had enough of a "reprieve" to come back a little. Yay, it's not dead! So hopefully next year we can enjoy some purty roses again.
So, I think you are right on the holly. .though now sure why it is spreading like that. The pink one looks like a four o'clock, does it open in the afternoon and close by morning? Sphinx moths love it, and it is a vigorous self seeder!! My morning glories just started blooming last week!! Crazy things!! My opinion is that "any bloom is a nice bloom" this summer!
ReplyDeleteYeah, they may be weeds, but at least they're colorful! :)
ReplyDeleteWe noticed our trumpet vine in our back yard has grown UP a tree and has now reached the top! LOL Our morning glories have finally started doing something too. Took them a long time.
ReplyDeleteGood grief, Becky, that's some climbing! Maybe we'll enjoy stuff during the fall that we should've enjoyed during the summer. :)
