Now, I grew up with the notion that the change of seasons was always on the 21st of whatever month. Seems like in recent years, somehow spring and fall might be on the 22nd or 23rd. ??? Well, in my mind, today, SEPTEMBER 21, is the first day of Fall. So there.
Fall looks like ...
Hazy-blue skies. (Which I love.)
Or, maybe BRIGHT blue skies.
Or, maybe gray, cloudy skies. (Which I also love.)
Tawny grasses in the pastures.
Trees changing colors, then being bare for their six-month nap.
Sunflowers by the roadside.
Newly-sown fields of wheat.
Sooner Football on TV.
Fall sounds like ...
Crickets.
Cornstalks rustling in the breeze.
Quiet.
Sometimes rumbly, far-off thunder when it rains.
Sneezing from allergies.
Fall smells like ...
Old leaves.
Fresh air.
Scented candles.
Chili on the stove.
Apples.
Spices.
Fall tastes like ...
Hot chocolate.
Chili.
Casseroles.
Caramel apples.
Coffe with lots of cream and sugar.
Apple pie.
Pumpkin pie.
Pumpkin bread.
Soup.
Fall feels like ...
Long sleeves, boots and jeans.
Wearing a hoodie over chilly arms in the morning because it's cold, then yanking it off in the afternoon because it's too warm.
Damp, cool air on a foggy morning.
Relaxing.
Snuggling under the covers while 50-degree air wafts in the open window.
Success of harvest.
No more mowing.
No more BUGS!!!! (After it freezes, anyway.)
I'm so thankful that we are blessed to live in a place where we have 4 seasons, with wonderful changes! I fired up my candles the other day too. .gotta love it!
ReplyDeleteI love having seasons! I know places like Hawaii and Florida have their positive things, but I don't think it would be enough seasonal change to suit me. LOL
