Hubby and I worked together and got the pickup loaded with ten bales, and we brought them home. He backed the pickup down near the garden area, then I wanted to take over myself, so I could have fun with my very own straw bales, and place them where I wanted.
Most girls like diamonds and perfume? Give me straw bales or hay bales! It's like medicine for me to see straw bales in our yard, and smell the scent of them. It's been too long. And speaking of too long, I think it has been way too long since I've bucked a bale - probably 25 or 30 years! Thankfully these straw bales were lighter than hay bales would've been, so I didn't have too much problem.
I did "let" older Son scoot the bales to the tailgate - I wanted to do the rest myself! I was almost obsessed with wanting to deal with these bales! They represented something from a long time ago that I liked and wanted back desperately. *sigh*
Straw bales waiting in the pickup.
Pulling a bale off of the pickup.
Sticking my tongue out at younger Son, who was taking a few pictures while I messed with the bales.
Lifting a bale. *UGH!* LOL
Carrying a bale to the south end of the garden area. I wanted some at the south end, and some at the north.
Placing a bale at the south end.
Grabbing a bale. Gloves are a necessity, for protection from the wire that can really cut into your hands, and the scratchy straw (or hay).
Me by the pickup.
A row of bales at the north end, and the wheat.
Meanwhile, the boys played golf!
Younger Son getting ready to hit the ball. (A whiffle ball, or they wouldn't be doing this!)
Younger Son is determined!!!
Younger Son placing the ball, older Son waiting.
Older Son chipping, younger Son waiting. They took turns without fighting (yet)!
Younger Son hitting, older Son waiting.
Uh-oh, the fight is on!
Sons haggling in the alley over the golf ball.
Wheat, straw bales, and the clothesline. I've dreamt of having three things - a clothesline, a garden, and chickens. I'm giving up on the chickens, I think that would be too much for me to take on right now. But hey, I'm thankful for the other two coming true!
Taking a break with my handy-dandy cowgirl work gloves.
Like I said, I did all the work while the boys played. Ha ha - I wanted it that way for this chore. :)
The stack at the south end makes a great back rest for lounging!
Younger Son golfing, and he stole my hat!
Beautiful bales of straw. :)
Younger Son and his "golfer pose."
I think he fell down in the yard a few times!
Older Son preparing to hit the ball. It would really *WHOOSH* through the air - usually as it flew by pretty close to my head!
Your guys are getting soooo big!! Glad you enjoyed the great weather too!
