Beautiful Day

The last 3 days have had a varied amount of rain and storminess. We're thankful for the rain, we needed it badly. But today was sunny, mild (somewhat cool even!), breezy, and just plain beautiful out!

Every one of the things I mention here, to me, is a GREAT BLESSING.

First order of business this morning was to kick myself out of bed, and drag older Son out of his. This was difficult, considerning the delicious, cool breeze coming in the window!! Boss picked Son up, then I went and did one of my paying jobs.

Came home and took a nap.

Enjoyed putting clothes on the line in a wonderful, just-right breeze.

Then Son called us later, his fertilizer truck wasn't cooperating. So Hubby, younger Son and I went out in the pickup and helped him get the thing to town, where we met Boss and got it fixed.

Treated older Son to a snack and drink.

We all ended up at Boss's farm, where he was spreading fertilizer, in preparation for field work and sowing. While we all took a break waiting for more fertilizer, we enjoyed some good conversation. Thankful that big trucks put out big shade. Younger Son got a lesson on un-ripe pecans. I was glad to "talk shop" on horses, even if just for a minute or two!

That may seem like such a simple thing, but it was such a great blessing to me, just to sit in the dirt in the shade at the edge of a field, and yak with a friend for a bit.

Got to spread some spilled fertilizer around on the dirt with my dainty, size-10 booted feet.

I made a new-found horsey friend:

(Vegas at the sorting a couple of weeks ago.)

Our boss has four horses. Amiga won't come up to me. Hollywood won't come up to me. Susie won't come up to me. But Vegas --- he and I have a nice friendship going! It made my day to stand there at the corral and just pet him and pet him, and he let me. I also got tickled, as Susie was by him, and anytime she'd seem to come closer, he'd turn his head at her and lay his ears back as if to say, "Stay away!" Well, she is the new horse in this setup, so she'll have to eventually find her place, I guess. :)

Then Hubby and I helped move a vehicle. I was glad to ride and drive the country roads in our pickup. Saw pastures, buttes, crops, hay bales, windmills, worked fields. Passing one farm, we had three dogs AND A CAT come running out to "chase" us!!

Came home and ate supper. Thankful Hubby's a good cook.

Lessons learned today:

Learned this one second-hand. When calibrating for how much fertilizer to spread, WEAR YOUR GLASSES (or otherwise make sure of what you're seeing) so you don't accidentally calibrate the wrong thing and put out too much!

COMMUNICATION IS KEY in life. Find out at which place the boss's pickup is parked BEFORE you go a few miles out of your way to a different place. (This was not me.) Also, make sure you know which place you're headed to when moving said vehicle, so that while Hubby goes in one direction to the right place, Wife doesn't accidentally go the OTHER direction back to the Boss's home! (Uh ... this WAS me.)

ALWAYS WATCH FOR KIDS IN OR NEAR THE STREET. (Or really, anywhere!) After we got home, we looked out and saw a tiny tot toddling around in our driveway. (Hubby's words: "Why is there a baby in our driveway??") At the same time, here came older Son home for the night in the humongous fertilizer truck! He saw her and avoided her, but I went out and scooped her up and headed next door. Here came the young mother, and took the toddler, saying, "You are in so much trouble!" The little girl was maybe a year old IF that much! I think someone else was in the "responsible" position in this case!!

All's well that ends well, and I am thankful to God for all the beautiful, beautiful blessings of this day! I am thankful He knows my heart, and pours out things that encourage and bless. Sometimes it's the little things that mean the most.

  1. that is so scary about the baby in your driveway - I am glad you all saw her - but I wonder what else is happening in her house.

I saw a woman today with a pretty horse-themed purse, I did look close at her to see just in case she was you, but nope! I know we both live in OK but since you are around wheat, I am pretty sure are not from my town but you more in the plains part. But wouldn't that of been fun to run into each other at Walmart!

  2. It's too bad that many people can't "see" blessings the way others can!! God IS good!

  3. Hey, Rhonda, that would've been fun for sure to meet you! Your observation about the baby's circumstances were probably correct - they were visiting next door, but the situation there has a lot of problems going on.

Amen, Melanie - you have a great week!
