The Bird Feeder Made Me Think This

After some inspiration and encouragement from a couple of friends' blogs, we put our bird feeder back in the front yard for the winter. And yes, we have quite a few birds that visit it throughout the day. I think we have sparrows and finches? And we saw the cardinal one day! The seed doesn't go down NEARLY as fast as it does in the summer, which is nice on the pocketbook. We have our couch by the front window in the winter, so this is turning into quite the pastime to sit on the couch and watch the birds come to the feeder.

I got to thinking, as my brain is always going on something ... everything's gotta eat. EVERY LIVING CREATURE NEEDS FOOD EVERY DAY. Humans, cattle, horses, cats, dogs, birds, bugs, everything eats every day. EAT, EAT, EAT. Trying to think of the amount of food boggles my mind!

I'm thankful that our heavenly Father takes care of our needs every day. It's not *boggling* to Him, thankfully!

Encouraging verses:

"Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?

"Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?

"Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?

"And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:

"And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.

"Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?

"Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?

"(For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.

"But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

"Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof." (Matthew 6:25-34, KJV)

  1. We have to refill ours now every other day right now. You just wait a few weeks. They will tell their friends about your buffet, who will tell THEIR friends, and so on! ;)

  2. this little favorite poem of mine goes along with this

    Overheard in an Orchard

Said the robin to the sparrow,
"I would really like to know
    Why those anxious human beings
    rush around and worry so."

Said the sparrow to the robin,
"Friend, I think that it must be
That they have no Heavenly Father
such as cares for you and me."

  4. LOL Becky! That reminds me of that "beer shampoo" ad from a long time ago.

Rhonda, thanks for sharing the poem, I love it! Great reminder :)

Melanie, we sure are enjoying it. Jonathan LOVES it. I consider it part of his home schooling. He gets so excited to see birds out there. :) I've got 3 little bird books that used to be my grandma's, so we look up birds once in awhile.
