Piano Date

Around a week ago, Hubby and I visited a friend in a hospital in the City. On the way out of the hospital, we happened to look over the balcony railing down into the front lobby as we passed it. (We had came in another way.) What? A gorgeous baby grand piano? In the lobby of a hospital? And it's playing by itself?

I just had to get a closer look, so Hubby and I went down, and yes, it was playing music, keys moving and all, through a CD/computerized setup.

Here, you can see the computerized box fitted below the keyboard to the right. Notice keys pressed down as it's playing.

Keys and hammers moving.

A closeup of the CD box.

The desk lady said, "Do you play?" I said, "Yes." She said, "Would you like to play it?" She had to repeat that 2 or 3 times, as I was thinking "really??" DO YOU KNOW HOW LONG IT'S BEEN SINCE I PLAYED A PIANO LIKE THIS? I said, "I'm kind of rusty, and only have one piece I've kept memorized through all this time." She said, "Anything's better than listening to that CD over and over all the time." (Something like that! She evidently wanted a change of pace for something to listen to!) So ... I sat down and played a Bach "Prelude" .... jeans and cowgirl boots and hoodie jacket and "Wheaties" T-shirt and gray hair and all.

Thank you, beautiful Yamaha piano, for making my day! And the lady was glad to hear the beautiful Bach piece, and it gave her ears a break. Her job at the nearby information desk meant she had to listen to that CD all day long. Hubby said a few people stopped and listened as they wandered through the lobby. That is the beauty of sharing music, it lifts everyone up and brightens their day, performers and listeners alike.
