Awhile back, Hubby and I went out to my "adopted" brother's old farm (where they don't live anymore, they moved to a different place) to sight in a rifle. Well, as we got there, I saw the horses in the pasture, then .... "Uh-oh, Vegas is out." Now, I have to tell you about these 3 horses. Hollywood and Amiga were in the pasture. They are the two horses I rode different times sorting. Hollywood was the first horse I'd been on in about 20 years, when a bunch of us got together for an informal sorting. Then, the next year after that, I rode Amiga in a sorting class at the local fair. Unfortunately, Amiga has a bad knee, and can't be ridden anymore for fear of stumbling.
Then there's Vegas. I haven't ridden him, but he's a top-notch horse, seeing my brother ride him. One time a few years back, he and his wife had to be gone, so I went out for a few days to open and shut corral gates in the mornings and evenings. It was during this time that Vegas and I got to be buddies. He was a little skittish at that time in a certain way at first, but then he sniffed me and let me pet him, and just loved it. So he and I got to be pals. We get along really well, even though I've never ridden him.
So when we were out there and saw Vegas out, I had no problem going up to him and petting him, even though he was loose. So Hubby called my brother, and he said to take him and put him in the barn if I could lead him. So I tried just leading him with my hand on his chin or by his head, and he kept wanting to go back to "wide open spaces." So I thought, "AHA, I'll use my belt." So I took my belt off, which has flowery holes all the way along it, and looped it around his neck near his head, and off we went to the barn. He was a perfect gentleman and walked nicely with me. The picture above, Hubby took, and we look awkward because we're coming up out of a mudhole in the driveway! Also, I'm hoping and hoping and hoping that my jeans don't fall down. Also, I NEED TO GO ON A DIET. Meanwhile, it would be a blast if I could ride this horse someday. :)
It's always fun to take part in something from the past!! We got a ton more snow yesterday, and it was nice to wake up to sunshine this morning. .It is sure gorgeous!! Enjoy your day!
