I found it! I finally found a picture of "Calfie."
Who is "Calfie," you say?
Well, back in the late '40's, Mom and Dad had a calf. From the pictures, I think it stayed out at Grandma and Grandpa W.'s farm. It was a white calf. Its name was "Calfie."
You can read what Dad wrote at the top of the picture: "our calf nearing butchering stage." Oh dear. Well, eventually that happened, and when Mom and Dad got the beef back, they couldn't eat it. All they could think of was "Calfie." So they gave the meat away.
Talk about tender-hearted!
This is Mom and "Calfie."

Awww! I love raising our own food, but I understand also!! Its hard being a meat eater and an animal lover!
ReplyDeleteWhat a cool old photo!! It's a good plan not to make pets out of your future food source. .I've always been a believer in that :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comments, girls! :)
ReplyDeleteAwww, we were NEVER allowed to name the one calf that Greatgranny's cow, Pet had every year.
