This internet deal sure takes me down some rabbit trails! I went down this path just now:
Check radar to see if more rain is headed at us.
Brought up "wunderground" radar-weather site to see the showers everywhere in the area, here and "up home."
This is a "google-earth" satellite deal (or whatever you call it), where you can zoom in and see stuff pretty close. With my love of maps, I enjoy this feature. It's one way to visit familiar places.
But sometimes when I visit familiar places, I get awfully sentimental, remembering times past. But, I like to see and remember anyway.
While looking at this site, I got a hankering to zoom in on the Dutch Kitchen and Pleasantview Shopping, just southwest of Hutchinson. My folks and I used to eat at the Dutch Kitchen a lot, especially while I was in college, plus visiting Stutzman's Greenhouse next door. Then the bulk foods store down the way. So I was having fun seeing the "map view" of all this. Then, I scooted over on the map to the Carriage Crossing Restaurant in Yoder, and had fun looking at that view from above. That sure got the memories rolling, too, as we also enjoyed eating there.
As I looked, I noticed the parking lot ... vehicles all around the building. Then I noticed 9 little dark dots at the north edge of the parking lot, and I immediately knew what they were - the employees' horses and buggies!
One time we visited this restaurant, and we sat at a table where I had a view through the serving window into the kitchen. Talk about fascinated ... I couldn't quit watching! Several Amish ladies were in there doing their cooking thing, but there was this one Amish girl I couldn't quit watching. She went from thing, to thing, to thing, stirring, dishing up, checking this, doing that, without missing a beat. But the most fascinating part was, once in awhile she went to the back corner, flipped some burgers (or something), and the FLAMES would shoot up! (A char-broiler, I assume.) Then she'd go on to the next thing. Then after a bit she'd go over and flip something more ... FLAMES! I was just amazed how she just floated from task to task, like she was really enjoying her work. I'll never forget it! It's a wonder I ate my meal, from being so fascinated watching ...
We LOVE eating at The Dutch Kitchen! The pie! Oh my!! ;)
