Tomorrow, we happily celebrate the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ! His death and resurrection are the most important things to have happened to, in, and for this sin-sick world. Hallelujah!
I think about Bible times and customs of that time a lot. The way they did things back then compared to our modern times is really thought-provoking to me. I'm fascinated with the Holy Land, with a deep love for Israel the country and Israel the people.
I had a really goofy dream last night, where people were playing some kind of game on water, wearing big, inflatable water shoes. (What did I eat before bed?? ha ha) So of course, like so many things do, I got to thinking.
Though Jesus didn't have any inflatable shoes to put on, he WALKED ON THE WATER. Peter did as well ..... until his faith wavered. But Jesus even helped him to be saved out of the stormy waves.
Though they didn't have fast food joints back then, Jesus blessed five bread loaves and two fish, and fed a multitude of thousands - with leftovers.
Though they had doctors, the woman who was sick for twelve years couldn't be cured by them, even with all the money she had. It only took reaching out in faith to touch the hem of Jesus' garment to make her completely whole and healed.
They didn't have cell phones back then. They didn't have phones at all. No computers, no internet, no e-mail. Perhaps foot messengers carrying messages or letters. People related face to face. Even with this "lack" of our modern communication conveniences, thousands thronged to hear what Jesus had to say. He spoke, they listened. No communication problem there!
Why did humanity throng to hear what Jesus said and to see the things that Jesus did for people? Because he was (and is) the SON OF GOD. He IS God, in the flesh. Jesus came to take our place to pay the debt for OUR SIN. His body was broken for us, his blood was shed for us. It is BY HIS SHED BLOOD that we are saved from our sins, if we believe on the Lord Jesus Christ.
Jesus is coming soon. Until then, we as believers are to occupy ourselves with his work. We are to take the message of salvation to the world, and make disciples. Like Jesus did, we are to go about "doing good." Not to "earn" our salvation, but because it's how we live as a RESULT of our salvation.
God bless us all as we especially remember Jesus' resurrection tomorrow, but may that continue on every day in a wonderful way. Hallelujah!
It is truly amazing when you just stop and think about it though isn't it?? As I read the story of Easter to the 1-3rd grade Sunday school kids yesterday morning, I STILL choke up and have to take a minute to be able to go on!! We have just finished a Sunday school program called Lord, change my attitude by James McDonald--FABULOUS!! And talks alot about what you just did. I think you would love it--
